Decisions Decisions Decisions!

We are constantly making decisions on a daily basis and on many different levels:  food, clothes, shoes,  books, accessories, etc.  Our brain jumps from topic to topic making decisions left and right.  Depending on our mood or the situation we can be more or less picky when making a decision.

Some decisions we make quickly  like a precise and accurate impulse.  We know exactly what we want and we don't need to spend too much time debating.  As I get older I do this more often.  I can pick better and more confidently!

Other decisions in life though, need a lot more thought.  However, there are some topics that I tend to avoid. For example, I was talking recently to a dear friend of mine who lost a loved one to cancer.  She was telling me about a few of the final arrangements and decisions that she had to make towards the end of their life and it was clear that this can be rough.

After we hung up, I reflected on our conversation and I realized that I haven't made any arrangements to prepare myself or my loved ones for when I kick the bucket.  I have talked about it, but I don't have anything specific in writing.  I know I need to prepare a will!

As much as I don't want to think about it, I need to face my fears and get it done. The last thing I want is to burden the people that love me.

I am aware that the main reason for delaying is fear.  And procrastination is the result. We know we are all going to die at some point, this is an absolute fact, and it doesn't matter how healthy, rich or educated you are, because it will happen.

Shit!

I need to write a will.  Especially since I have goldilocks (my kid). I am determined to get it done.

I started doing some research and reading about wills. Since each state in the US is different, you have to make sure you have the right forms and that it is filed according to their requirements.  There are basic forms that people can use online, like the one on this website:

Simple Will - The State Bar of California

But if you are unsure of something you shoud consult with a lawyer or someone that can offer legal advice, as it is indicated.

While doing my research, I also found this little piece of data:

This is for the US:

"Published in 2007, Harris Interactive® for Martindale-Hubbell® conducted a research study finding that for the last three years, 55% of all adult Americans do not have a will. Only one in three African American adults (32 percent) and one in four Hispanic American adults (26 percent) have wills, compared to more than half (52 percent) of white American adults."

By the way, I tried to look for the same data for Colombia or anywhere in Latin America and I couldn't find anything...

Anyhow, just with those results I can tell there are a lot of people out there that feel like me...  It's freaky to think about stuff like this!

Right?
Tic... tic... tic...

However, there is also a good percentage of people that have been really organized and have a will.  I want to be a part of that percentage and I don't want to keep procrastinating.  Also, I am going to pull out my bucket list and work on it, you just never know!

Dream away!!!
